In two words I'd describe Sun World as lovingly chaotic. Waiters whiz past pushing trolleys, patrons constantly mill around, tea is refilled before you notice and the poor hostess always seems to be dealing with five customers at once. Sometimes it can feel slightly harrowing, but it's all part of the fun.
Yum cha (or dim sum) is the highlight, so arriving before midday is best. Yum cha consists of multiple small dishes, best shared between friends. Think of it like tapas...But better. Waiters push around carts piled with various choices; turnip cake (savoury), egg tarts, chicken feet, pork and shrimp dumplings and all other manner of delicacies. Tasting them all would take multiple visits, which I'd definitely encourage!
What makes Sun World stand head and shoulders above the rest is the quality and availability of their fare. Not to mention the better service. Yes, staff may actually smile at you here!
Food comes up fresh and fast, so you've constantly got the choice that a good yum cha experience demands. Dishes tend to be lighter in oil than contemporaries, though still heavy enough for a belly filling meal. Sun World's siu mai, char siu bao and cheong fun are must haves and regularly feature on my table. Though almost everything is worth eating with friends.
