Pop up eateries are gathering steam in Auckland, with great summer events bringing ample opportunity for them to shine. One such eatery that's been on my radar has been The Pie Piper. Passion project of mother and daughter, Danielle and Suzanne, the team bakes kick ass American sweet pies. They're regularly at The Food Collective, but can be found at other events in Auckland.

I first fell in love with The Pie Piper eating their spiced plum pie. To friends I gushed about the incredible buttery, flakey crust with dark, spiced plums. The one slice wasn't nearly enough, and I came back the next day with company in tow for more.

Side by side with classics such as apple pie, are newer concoctions such as margarita and strawberry pies. For those wanting smaller bites a mix of mini pies are available. The peanut butter and salted caramel had thicker crusts than their larger siblings, and were significantly richer despite their size. The salted caramel was filled to the brim, resulting in a very indulgent morsel. Everything I've tried has been sublime, from lighter apple pies to heavier mini peanut butter pies.

The team behind The Pie Piper create pies that whisk me back home, the way mum used to make. Buttery pastry, luscious ingredients, these deserve to feed your sweet tooth.
